Combating Stress #5 - Organisation & Cleaning

I find being organised and cleaning can really help lower my stress level and I feel productive.

Organsing
When it comes to being organised everyone is different in the way they like their stuff to arranged.
Personally for me I can divide up my organisation into groups:
- school work (assignments, homework, extra curricular activities)
- personal stuff (hobbies, art, beauty, sport, technology and sentimental objects)

To live an organised life I focus on maintaining organisation in these main areas:
- school diary
- monthly calendar
- daily to do lists on paper and on my phone
- reminders and alerts on my phone
- an organised, clean desk
- organised boxes underneath my bed and in my cupboard
- a good clothing system in my wardrobe and chest-of-drawers
- lists
- good apps on your phone

Now this may seem like a lot but when you are stressed or have free time go through the list above and tidy up, de-clutter, implement organised systems, and clean. Pinterest is full of many ideas on organisation and cleaning that will inspire you.

Cleaning and staying organised:

1. School diary - a key resource in a teenagers life. To have an organised diary don't keep loose sheets as they are more than likely to get lost or ruined. Write down all your subjects for each day and record any homework. Have your timetable in an easy to access spot in your diary. Have a week or day tab so it is easy to find the date in your dairy. Lastly write down any events coming up.

2. A monthly calendar - is a great way to get a bigger overview of everything that s happening. Keep regularly updating any important information or events. Use different colours or stickers to differentiate between events. Hang it in a clear spot where you will see it often.

3. Daily to do lists on paper and on phones - is a really helpful way of managing the smaller details and things that need to get done. If you are feeling super motivated you can write down the times you want to do things, but always leave extra time in case things take longer than expected. Arrange them on your phone so you can see and find them easily.

4. Reminders and alerts on your phone - can be super handy when we just forget. It is great to be reminded because we then feel more obliged to do it.

5. An organised desk - will motivate you to get work done and if it's clean you can happily work away in an environment that will cause less stress. File away all school stuff in drawers, cupboards and magazine holders. In my desk I have a large drawer filled with stationary, a smaller drawer holds paper, and a small cupboard for textbooks, folders, books and bulky item. Other items are placed on the shelves. I like to change up my desk style every now and then to keep it interesting and sometimes according to the holiday season! I also a have a really handy large leather box from Office Works under my desk that hold past exams, study notes, old exercise books and other school stuff.

6. Labelled boxes underneath my bed and in my cupboard - this is probably where I keep most of my stuff to maximise space. Under my bed I have three large boxes. One for everything technology, one for all my art and creative supplies, another for random stuff. I also have labelled cherry boxes stacked right up to my ceiling filled with all kinds of stuff. Make sure you are not keeping anything that is unnecessary or you don't need/want. This space also holds accessories like shoes, hats, bags and winter accessories.

7. A good clothing system - Have your clothes organised into sections e.g. dresses, top, skirts, pants, winter, summer. Plan out a good system that won't get messed up after a couple of days.

8. Lists - Creating lists are my favourite way to stay on top of things and each time I cross something of I feel motivated and proud, as silly as it sounds but it actually does work. I have notebooks and notepads everywhere, even electronic ones!

9. Good apps - having a few good apps can really help you stay on top of things. Two good apps that already come on iPhones are notes and reminders. I love using these apps daily plus others for motivation and organising.
